Harmo is an experiential learning community focused on food and nutrition, connecting over 150 members across Japan. Through various online and offline activities, Harmo nurtures skills, promotes local resource utilization, and fosters a circular economy mindset among its members and partnering organizations.
Harmo is an experiential learning community centered around food and nutrition, bringing together current dietitians and nutrition students. With about 150 members from Hokkaido to Okinawa, we connect diverse individuals through food, utilize local resources, and foster circular thinking.
Through online skill-up courses and local project activities, members not only deepen their knowledge and skills related to food but also work on solving local issues and effectively utilizing resources. For example, we've repurposed discarded kimonos into name tags and utilized forgotten tableware to serve parfaits, creatively regenerating local resources.
Harmo is more than just a learning platform; it's a space where each member can grow authentically and expand their possibilities. We aim for these small steps to benefit others and gradually change society for the better.
Architect, former Principal at Rotor and Co-founder of Rotor Deconstruction
From a computer screen ‘sign in’ page to the ways of Satoyama : a place where nature and people exist in harmony. My work has been concerned with the circulation of used construction materials, but at a meta level, it has served as the backbone for a group of young adults to practice an interdisciplinary collective intelligence. Thinking through hands-on engagement reveals insights that cannot emerge at a decision-making table or within a lecture format.
I trust that seeds of the greater good lie in the joy and energy emanating from the settings crafted by Harmo. The environmental challenges facing our generation need to be informed by contemporary citizens connected to the ground.
